Minky Love....

Hobby Lobby has not been good for my pocketbook lately...but I sure LOVE it!!!! When in there the other day for a ZIPPER....I happened upon this darling fleece and minky...in monkeys!!! now it just so happens my oldest daughters nickname for her unborn daughter is little monkey..and aqua is about my fav color right now......soooooo, I decided to make a taggy blanket for her little monkey...and since I had to buy $30.00 worth of ribbon...lol..I decided to make one for my other daughters unborn son....and her best friends baby which is due any week now. AND I can squeeze another one out to keep here at NeNes. I have to justify all that ribbon!!!!!!

First time I have ever worked with minky...a mess, but so soft and so worth the effort!!!!

So two of them are finished...2 more to go.....they are fast and easy...to make these 2 only took me about 3 hours from start to finish...Im loving these fast and easy projects!!!

So..how am I doing with my word of the year...RESOLVE.....

well...so far so good....

I have not bitten my fingernails in a week!!!!

Im back to walking every night......

Im back in the sewing room....

Still trying to learn the piano..its the hardest thing ever....

Iam eating a little bit healthier.....

BUT my resolve in the handbag area is weak...having spotted an aqua and white polka dot purse in the new Fossil catalog.....God help me.....theres a fossil shop 10 minutes away.

This weekend is a girls weekend for me. I have hung out with the same group of friends since high school...some 45 years....thru thick and thin...some of us have died, some have lost children, husbands, divorces...you name it....but still we hang tight. One of us is retiring from her nursing job and moving to Virginia...and we are seeing her off with a few events. Friday night its just 6 or 7 of us who are the closest to her having a slumber party at her house...which used to be her moms house and the hangout in high school!!! talk about memories!!! Then saturday night we will meet at a restaurant and there will be about 15 of us...and THEN because some gals couldnt make it saturday night we are having ANOTHER dinner monday night with them and most of the ones from fri and sat night!!! We all get together a few times a year and its always a hoot.....I must resolve to exercise madly to work off all the dinners!!!!

For those of you who follow my blog, the granny panties will be there too....of course!!!

Of Pinterest!!!!!! I needed an idea for my gift for Christmas thru the year...and I thought these would be fast and easy...and CUTE!!!

Seriously it went together in 1/2 hour from start to finish!!! And its make out of WOOL...my fav thing to play with!! I thought they would make cute little gifts, gift card holders, whatever...Thanks go to Darlene and Cheryl for hosting this event...Im hoping the accountablilty keeps me on track!!!! not the mention the darling little give aways and fun they are planning...and its never to late to join, so get over there!!!So here you have it...my first gift of 2012!

Road to Cali and another finish...

Finished another dolly...thats 2 for the year:)

My sister and I went to Road yesterday..man was it crowded...we got there right when they opened and the parking lot was already full!!!! so we parked in a lot across the street....then we stood in a line that was aobut 1/2 mile long!!! we had already bought our tickets too, there was another line to buy tickets just as long! I tell ya, even in a bad economy....quilters will spend money...lololol.....The first booth we rushed to was Primitive Gatherings and it was STILL packed. I took no pics but my sister did and when she uploads them I will post them:)Found this tote bag kit right next door at quilt soup! She designs the happiest fabrics ever!!!! DID NOT need a tote, but could not pass up this kit, its so cute!!!

Bought a few patterns...did not need them either...but you know how it is....waiting for that rainy day....

Promised myself I WOULD NOT buy any wool....and I almost didnt.....but...well.....you know....I didnt buy much, I was prepared to spend a boatload,I had seen an iron at the Long Beach show and didnt buy it, and I decided to get it yesterday but they werent there. Im so sad, I dont even know the name of it, its like got a heavy duty shot of steam...does it sound familiar to anyone???? they were at the Long Beach Quilt Festival....and the iron is around 200 bucks? oh well...you snooze you lose:(I tell ya I have a new addiction.....one of many I know...Pinterest....omg have you been there yet???? what a time suck!!!!! LOVE it!!!when am I going to learn the piano, learn to crochet, learn everything on my list, and sew everyday...with all these distractions???? my husband and I lost a good friend this week and her funeral is tomorrow....she had luekemia, and my hubby had been donating blood, a certain kind I dont know how to spell so I wont try, but he went to City of Hope EVERY WEEK....she had a bone marrow transplant and somehow all the chemo and radiation just weakened her to the point she couldnt make it. She was a teacher and very much loved. She and her hubby have been our friends for 40 years, her hubby and mine are fraternity brothers. My friends, theres a lot of petty stuff going on out there....but life is short and full of surprises, so never take anything for granted...love like theres no tomorrow!!!! Last year I eliminated a lot of baggage from my life...this year I will work on forgiveness...it all seems so small and minor in the grand scheme of things!!!! This week I RESOLVE to put all the petty crap in a box and stick it in a corner...and focus on loving the people in my life that deserve it...and hopefully before the year is over, I will be able to throw that box away!!!!!Have a great weekend peeps!!!

Oh my Im so hooked on Scentsy now, look at Februarys burner!!! LOVE it!!!Do you have a Home Goods near you? I LOVE Home Goods!!!! found this darling little oil painting with a Boston Terrier.....my daughter has one, now SHE wants the picture!!!! the jurys still out....I really like it!

OK I got my primitive quilts and projects magazine the other day and fell in LOVE with this rabbit...oh wait..Wabbit quilt in wool....by Lynda Hall..MUST make.....Im going to try to talk my sister to come over one day and we can make these together.....Linda??? whatta ya think???

Its been really really busy around here lately....my resolve (my word for 2012) is not working too well...BUT I plan to start sewing soon....my sister and I are going to Road to California thursday, is anyone else going???? I hosted a baby shower for my daughters best friend....and shes like my own daughter as well.....there were cake pops......

Stacy and her wonderful mother in law...who I have been friends with for years...way before Stacy even met her son...

These four girls have been friends since forever..all thru high school...now they are married and having babys together...and it warms my heart that they stay such a part of each others lives. My daughter and Sunny..the two blondes, have been best friends since they were in diapers, they were thier maid of honors and had babys together, and now thier other best friend Stacy is joining them by having a baby. These girls are like sisters and its just an amazing thing....

This baby will have lots of Aunties!!!

There were probably 50 gals at this shower..she got so many beautiful things!!!

In HEAVEN because one of my idols in the prim world.Cheri Payne..with whom my idol worship goes back even BEFORE prim...when I bought all her painting books when I still had my skill saw and belt sander lol. Shes the most talented artist ever, and Iam beyond excited that we did a trade!!!! NOW I told her to send me WHATEVER she wanted....anything from her would be delightful and treasured!!!! I never in my wildest dreams imagined she would send me the sample for her quilt in Primitive Quilts!!!!!!!!! Im on cloud nine and shall remain there for quite a while. I just hope she likes what I sent her!!?!?!?!

Its SO awesome.... I love that quilt so much I want to marry it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK in other news...remember a couple of posts ago when I said I was not going to buy any new purses for an entire year???

At any rate, RESOLVE...thats my plan....thats my word..

I love this time of year because I always make a point of seeing special friends for breakfast or lunch....met up with 3 of my dearest oldest friends from a church we all went to 25 years ago. We still all stay in touch and I love them to death....so I made little goodies for them....always fun!

I hope all of you are enjoying this season......from last season to this season I feel like I have left winter and finally entered spring.....last couple of years were rough...this year is joyous!!!!! I plan on enioying every second of it...!!!!!!!!

Tiramusu Dip

INGREDIENTS

•12 ounces mascarpone cheese (about 1 1/2 cups)
•8 ounces ricotta cheese (about 1 cup)
•1/2 cup granulated sugar
•2 tablespoons brewed espresso
•2 tablespoons Marsala or Kahlúa
•1 teaspoon cocoa powder
•1/2 cup finely chopped bittersweet chocolate

INSTRUCTIONS

Place mascarpone in a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment and whip on low speed until smooth, about 30 seconds. Add ricotta, sugar, espresso, and Marsala or Kahlúa. Increase speed to high and beat until stiff peaks form, about 3 minutes.
Transfer to a shallow 1-quart serving dish and dust with cocoa powder, then sprinkle chopped chocolate over cocoa. Serve with strawberries or assorted cookies.

Found this darling nativity set on my last trip to Big Bear....very kid friendly!

My Grandmother gave me this one 30 years ago...I treasure it....also kid friendly....

My BFF made me this angel a few years ago....shes very special!

She also made all the snowmen that are on every window sill in my house!

I LOVE pillows.....always have seasonal pillows out...

Well...its not totally done...still working on a Christmas tablescape....it will be lots of candles, greenery and not sure what else...but I think the centerpiece will be a cool rosemary topiary in the shape of a Christmas tree...

Now Im off to tackle my sewing room, it took quite a beating while sewing for the show.....Have a great day!!!

A perfectly delightful day....

I had a Scentsy party a few weeks ago and today I needed to deliver the last 2 orders...so my day started off at 8:30 when I met my friend Sue (an old high school friend) for coffee at Starbucks....she lives in the same town as me...and we chatted for over an hour. It was so fun gabbing....BUT time flys and next I had to meet Miss Polkadot at our LQS to deliver her order. WELL...that was an expensive stop...lol...they always have the best kits and Im a fool for kits. BUT I did find some fun ones for Christmas gifts...now to just get in there and clean up my sewing room so I can find my machine!!!!

sooooooo..after my stop at Stars...I decided to get a bite at my fav place and right across the way is Caseys Cupcakes. If you watched Cupcake Wars you will remember her, and she has the cutest shop right in Riverside...so of course I needed to take a peek....

and what do you know, they had lemon cupcakes......MY FAV!!!!

NOW I want a PINK tree next year!!!!

They are packaged so cute!!!

and Im not normally a frosting fan...but dude....I ate the WHOLE thing!!!!

It was a sweet (literally) day and now Im back home.....thinking about a hike to work off that cupcake!!!!!!

Then I need to clean up my sewing room....I cannot even see the floor...and then...try to make some Christmas gifts!!!!

I saw this idea somewhere and I decided to try it....

You just get some of those green trees from Michaels or Joanns and soak them in bleach for awhile....when they are white its time to dye them...I just just a little of the dye in a bowl of hot water....

They really turned out a cool color.....

I used a pink and a teal dye....then you get some glitter and some spray adhesive...I used the same color glitter then I used a white to make it look like they were frosted....

They really turned out very cool...and since I had a ton of them I packed some up to take to the show this weekend......

I also made some extra tags....

And some cupcake kits....

And some Annies......although life got in the way and I didnt make very many.....

A couple of them turned out so cute I hope they dont sell so I can keep them.....

We are having a major wind storm here in Cali....I have a bit of damage to my yard...broken birdbaths, lots of potted plants ruined, but so far no power outage like lots of folks and no trees down in my yard......supposed to be gusts up to 60 MPH but I swear its worse than that....it gets windy here...Santa Anas, devil winds...always come this time of year...but these are the worst I can ever remember!!!!

My Christmas show at Piecemakers Quilt shop is this weekend and I needed some tags for my dolls...something I could perforate and tear off the bottom and still have a cute tag left for the customer....so I bought a box of shipping tags....5 bucks for like 100 of them..CHEAP....sewed a line along the bottom and then added the candy canes and bakers twine...

Perfect...I can tear off the price and still there is a cute tag left and I didnt have to break the bank.....
Now what to do with the rest of those tags. I had seen this idea on pinterest so I went outside and gathered up some stuff and went to town...and now I will have tags for all my presents...

The possibilties are really endless...you can use whatever you can gather or have laying around..and just use whatever ribbon or twine...I used a lot of bakers twine but use what you have.

I think they are really cute and really frugal....and who doesnt like frugal????

This is what my youngest passed out at Thanksgiving Dinner...........so now BOTH my girls are pregnant at the same time. Tracey is due April 15th and Chelsey is due June 14th.........could I be any more blessed?

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday...bar none....what Im sad about is that the day after Thanksgiving its all about Christmas and I have to take down all my fall....I love my house best in fall, the colors, its warm...inviting, I love everything about fall and Thanksgiving. I DO NOT want to put away fall!!!!!!!

I will be having right about 16 for dinner Thursday....normally its more but my sister and her family are going to her husbands familys....but there are always last minute straglers too, there is always an open door here!!!!

I made this runner last spring but the colors remind me off fall....

I found this precious picture at an antique store up in Washington when I was visiting a dear friend years ago....I LOVE it!!!! and the little acorn candle holder compliments it I think.

This is my dining room....very simple...

This bowl is really a covered cake plate,you just turn it upside down.. they sell them at Crate and Barrel, you can use it also as a punch bowl, or in this case, I put pine cones in it. I will leaves pinecones in it for Christmas and just change out the wreath around the base to Christmas....

My table is very simple.....I love Ina Garten and I take her advice, some flowers, some seasonal fruit...some votive candles and you are set. I also sprinkled some candy corn around the pumpkins for fun....

So today hubby and I took a drive up to our local mountains, Big Bear Lake. Its about an hours drive from here and its beautiful. There was snow on the ground but it must have been about 75 degrees, the sun was warm!!!! We had a great time....

This is a home made marshmellow we got at a darling shop where we had it...along with cinnamon apple pie lattes, which was one of the best lattes I have ever had!!!! Kris blogged about this place and we had to stop...she also blogged about the best burger on the mountain at Pierre and Blancas, and she didnt lie, it was amazing!!!!

Well....tomorrow the whirlwind will start, the baking will commence...the turkey will get stuffed and the potatos mashed.....families will gather around the table and share good times. I will miss my oldest, but she will be sharing Thanksgiving with my best friend and her family 3,000 miles away, but she, and they, will be right here in my heart....

I found out that my oldest daughter will be having a girl...I could not be happier for them. Her husband wants to name her Ravi...which means sun...because their whole world will revolve around her....that made me tear up!!! Im sure the name will change a million times, but for them...life is about to take on a whole new meaning.

Im so thankful for this bloggy world...I have made so many friends..to all of you, have a perfectly wonderful Thanksgiving!!!! Im sure it will be a 3 ring circus here, and that just the way I like it....

My show is in a couple of weeks....luckily Im sharing the booth so it wont matter that Ive been slacking in the doll dept....Im just having too much fun right now and not sewing enough!!!!

I have been challenged to do the 30 things Im grateful for....so heres my version...
now let me start by saying Im not going to include all the normal things like God, hubby, family, friends, etc...that all goes without saying and would take up my whole list...truly Im blessed beyond measure in those depts. and I know it....but Im going to list the things that Im grateful for on an every day basis..THIS YEAR..this might give you a better glimpse into my life:)
These are in no particular order:
1. wheat chex....I start my day with these EVERY day for 20 years....wouldnt change!
2. my BFF.....if only we lived closer....
3. leggings
4. Mel...my hairdresser...without whom I would be lost
5. starbucks...skinny cinnamon dolce latte please..no foam
6. the sun
7. bare minerals...to take away the sun spots
8. my cutco scissors...I use them everyday from trimmimg roses to cutting chicken
9. my french vanilla coffee creamer
10. my Iphone
11. that I get to see my granddaughter whenever I want to
12. my new calcium pills that are like gummy bears...I never forget to take them!
13. Uggs
14. that my dog is healthy and thriving as a diabetic
15. my keurig
16. my donut maker
17. that my husband makes my tea every morning and brings it to me in bed, as he has for 28 years...
18. indoor laundry room
19. teavana
20. that both my daughters call me every day and say that Iam their best friend.
21. Marie Callenders corn bread mix
22. that I still hang with my high school girls and we still have just as much fun
23. that I can hike in the preserve and still make it to the top
24. clairol root touch up.....omg so thank ful!!!
25. not having to make 3 of everything!!!!!! lol
26. that Im going to be a grandma again!!!

30. that in this season of my life...right now...Im happy. I know that seasons change, and stuff happens, but right now....right here....is exactly where I want to be!!!

Out with Halloween...in with my favorite month!!!!!

I dont have nearly the decor for Thanksgiving as I do for Halloween but the simplicity is welcomed after the clutter.....

I have so much to be thankful for this year....the last couple of years were not good at all...aside from the light of my life...Stella...we had some rough spots. We lost my husbands father...in the process it was a year of trying to figure out how to take care of him when he was 4 hours away....disagreements with family members over his care...and finally the worse kinds of betrayals. BUT in the end....at the moment of his death...there was victory because we know in all certainty where he is. and those family members.......no longer even occupy a space in our heads....which took awhile...but there is victory there too!! It has been a year now....and we are so at peace! Sometimes you have to let go of toxic people...and it feels so good!
Last year was also a year of letting go of some toxic relationships...(I hesitate to say friendships)...you know what Im talking about...drama..competition...back biting...jealousy..all these things that do not belong in true friendship. At my age I know what true friendship is...and I cherish it. Im so thankful for my BFF (with whom I have NEVER had a fight....well...one almost...lololol) and all my dear friends, old and new that I depend on and love. my group of high school friends that still hang together after all these years and still act like teenagers....friends from my 20s, 30s, 40s, and now 50s...that have always been there for me thru good and bad and ugly. New bloggy friends that are so much fun...and drama free!!!!!

Now dont get me wrong....this release of the toxic has not been easy..and theres still some days when I think about how my husbands brother betrayed him and I want to lash out.....or I think of how a friend betrayed me and I want revenge...but these days have turned into fleeting moments, and I reconize them and release them before they take a foothold again.

I dont usually get so personal on my blog....forgive me, but Im so full of Thanksgiving for how far I have come and how free I feel with all this behind me. This time of year seems to always invoke these feelings of Thanksgiving...and I plan to celebrate everyday the gifts I have been given!

My oldest daughter has been living on the east coast and working in New York for the last 5 or 6 years. She has never been interested in having children (shes 37) and her career has always been her priority. When she flew out here 18 months ago, and held her new little baby niece in her arms for the first time...she felt a stirring....an awakening so to speak....and now she is 4 months pregnant with her first baby. This was as much as a surprise to her as it was to all her family..that she would ever want a baby...but miracles do happen and as happy as I was...I ws also sad to have her so far away. Well...here comes the second miracle....she was offered a position at the corporate headquarters in Seattle....BACK ON THE WEST COAST!!!! yes its still a flight to see her...but a much shorter one....to have her back on the west coast, Im so thankful.

So for this season in my life....life is awesome! I know these seasons can change, but I will enjoy everything this one has to offer!

and speaking of bloggy friends...lol...I just happened to be chatting with one and she mentioned to me how COLD those annies in the basket must be without any cloths....did she have to come here and take care of it??? LOLOLOL..well...heres the first of them all dressed, just for you girlfriend....the others will soon follow...thank you for your concern...and thank you for your friendship!!!

When you need a little inspiration....

You go to your LQS...which in my case is Stars and Scraps....the best shop around!!!!
I needed some fabric.....and some fun....so thats where I headed. The owner there is the sweetest gal...always ready to help...or just chat..
lots of local bloggers frequent this store...its just always different and always lots of little kits which I like!!!! OH and did I mention how friendly they all are????? So check it out if you are in the area! who knows who you may run into!!!

and now that I have some holiday fabric....

I can dress these naked gals....its getting cold here in So Cal...we even got snow in our mountains!!!

So after Stars....hubby and I headed up to Riverside....this is the Mission Inn...starting to get dressed for the holidays.

CANNOT miss eating at Simple Simons, simply the BEST sandwiches around...they bake their own bread and its to die for!!!

I always get the same one....BLATT...bacon, lettuce, avacado, tomato and turkey!!!!

OK so I had a little party for about 25 of my friends....and as soon as the door bell rang I got so busy these were the only pictures I got!!!!!

I got the idea for these from marthas new book...individual crudite...dont have to worry about double dippers!!!!

Like I said...I got NO pictures and at the very end I at least got ONE....these 2 are gals that I went to high school with...Im so sad I didnt get more...but it was a loud raucous party and just way too much fun to think about taking pics!!!

Im having a party tonight for all my friends...so Im busy making yummy goodies for them, but I wanted to show you a picture of Stella before her photo shoot. She got called to model a new line for Gwen Stefani's Harajuku clothes for kids by Target....she is surrounded by gals doing her hair and primping her....and loving it...lololol....its not a good picture but you get the idea. I gotta say these clothes are adorable too!!!!

Made our annual pilgrimage to Oak Glen for some apple goodness.....

the apple pies are a mile high..

OK heres some serious eye candy for you...when my BFF told me to go get this book I was out the door....and very sad that my costco didnt have it...so I came home and got it on Amazon and had it 3 days later...gotta love Amazon!!!

Its the most beautiful book Martha has put together yet!!!

and it was a fun mail day...I also got this cool cat and all kinds of teas and coffees from my bff!!

So last weekend I went to a huge street fair and found an amazing artist who makes these darling pottery dishes.....her little critters are just precious and I wish I could have bought them all...she had hedgehogs and hares and all kinds of creatures!!! shes on my favs list!!!! I will serve nuts in the squirrel dish and cheese in the mouse dish:)

I always have a open house on Halloween...chili, cornbread and lots of goodies...oh and this year homemade donuts thanks to my new toy...lol...I will find ANY excuse to make donuts!!!

So we will light up the firepit and pass out candy....Stella is going to be Foohfa from Yo Gabba Gabba....and enjoy friends and family!!!! Have a Happy Halloween!!!!!!

SO I really messed up this post and my pics are all out of order,,,and since Im short on time Im leaving it this way....and Im lazy...lol
Today we went to Glitterfest....but before I get to that...when my friend Leighanne got here she brought these darling little coin purses to show me.......2 of them are staying with me.....are they not amazing??? She makes them out of repurposed felted sweaters.....I LOVE the teeth on the one and the other is sticking out his tongue....just stick it back in there to zip it up!!! Her etsy site is the tangerine pug...and I think she may put some on there....

So like I said my pictures are out of order, the ones at the end should be at the beginning.....but like I said we went to Glitterfest to shop and visit a few friends that were selling there......

this is Estella and she makes amazing dolls....she sells them down in Temecula at Rooster Creek...LOVED the Skellie bride and groom!!!!!

I had to bring one of Sharons (Mustard Seed Originals) dolls home to join her other ones...LOVE LOVE LOVE her dolls....

Had a great time with Lieghanne and my sister...and got lots of inspiration!!!! saw lots of old friends and had a great lunch......

It was really hard to get pictures there of some of the booths cuz they were packed....I wanted a picture of my neighbor Lisa Loria's wonderful booth but I could barely get near it....same with most of them, it was shoulder to shoulder...

She and her hubby are over the moon at coming back to the west coast and so am I!!!!!!!

Now those of you who know me well..know that Iam an impatient person....when I want it I want it NOW!!!! and I wanted the mini donut maker....
I have to say the first batch are not all that attractive..I used a sifter the second time around and the powdered suger looked way better...these are buttermilk spice, a yummy taste of fall.
So in keeping with my personality of course I had to have the mini cupcake maker and of course the cake pop maker..which was very hard to find...BUT where theres a will theres a way. I wish I had more patience...I wish I wasnt this way....but I get so obssesed. Remember the lalapaloosey dolls???????? when I started scrapbooking I HAD to have everything.....now Im stuck with a roomfull of crap I dont use!!! Rug hooking...omg if I didnt get it ALL right away I felt so deprived....dont even ASK me about quilting!!!!!!!! or soldering.....or papier mache...or any of the multitudes of hobbies I have started over the years.
I must be getting better tho...I did not buy the mini whoopie pie maker!!!!!

Do any of you out there have this personality trait???? for instance...my wonderful sister..she has patience...if she sees something she does something that is very foreign to me....she THINKS about it!!!!! and in doing that she avoids the dreaded remorse buying. ME...Im all in.....lol...always been that way. Even with my heart...not just with material things. Its a curse sometimes....jumping in with both feet...you can get hurt...or go broke...lololo.....but I have always worn my heart on my sleeve and I guess I always will........its just me.
SO...back to the donut maker.......I give it an A+......I had yummy donuts after 5 minutes in that machine...easy clean up...and they arent fried so you can eat twice as many...(see, thats the way I think!!!!)
How about you...are you practical...or are you like me???????

My sister and I went to Blog Sugar this weekend and I learned a lot of things.....

We met Holly and she taught us how to eat a cupcake without getting frosting all over your face...here is Kris demonstrating how it is done...

you cut the top off and sandwich it so the frosting is on the inside....WHO KNEW?????

When I said it was a SWEET weekend I meant it!! there were all kinds of sugary goodness there, and even a cotton candy machine!

there were pink whoopie pies....

and cupcakes with mini donuts on top!!!

there were lemon raspberry tartlets...love a tartlet!!!!!

oh..and the placecards...mini donuts!!!!

we met up with Kris and Holly and Tammy and Jenn at Islands for a yummy lunch before BLog Sugar....

It was Tammys birthday so we shared a cupcake in the parking lot......

It was a fun time...met some fun bloggers....I learned a few things...but the biggest thing that maybe I came home with..............I NEED A MINI DONUT MAKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did get the chili made but it was so beautiful yesterday I ended up outside most of the day....but I did get a few little touches of Halloween done..guess I will try to get the rest done this weekend.....I have alot of Halloween stuff..its my favorite time to decorate!

Last year this day was a very dark day for me......my dog was dying and therefore I was going to die..she had been in the hospital for 4 days....HOWEVER....God answered my prayers and let her live...and here she is a year later ...and thanks to a very strict diet and insulin shots twice a day she is doing amazing!!!!!! What a difference a year makes!!!!!

Still working on the fall show at Piecemakers...made some crows today......

I found this little owl at a shop by my house...too cute for fall......

and speaking of fall....I LOVE Pottery Barn this time of year!!!!!

Its National Dog Day today........and those of you who know me know how much I love my dogs....more than I like most folks if the truth be known...they are loving...loyal...always there for you...
They bring so much joy...and pain..and sometimes we wonder if the pain is worth it....it is. I almost lost my Little Cheech last year...and a some people I love lost their best friends last year...it was a bad dog year. But we made it thru...we miss those that are gone and love those that are here. I will give them an extra treat today and love them like theres no tomorrow...because sometimes there isnt....

Beverly from MySewSweetStudio!!!! My sister and Beverly have become friends and they graciously invited me to tag along for the day!!! We had a delightful visit...Beverly had heard about our LQS Stars and Scraps and wanted to visit...so thats where we started....

This shop is my fav and one reason is they have so many kits...and Im a sucker for kits....YES I got this one!!!!

After our visit to Stars we went and had a wonderful lunch and Beverly Im soooooooooooo rude I totally forgot to thank you for lunch!!!!!! It was a great day and its always fun to meet a fellow blogger!!! Lets get together and sew SOON!!!!
Also...hubby took me to go see The Help and I have to say it was a GREAT movie. I had read the book when it first came out and loved it...and usually the movie is never as good as the book..BUT in this case..it was. RUN and go see it...you wont be sorry, you will laugh and you will cry...lots of different emotions...LOVED IT!!! and hubby loved it too...I was a little afraid it would be more chick flickish...but he loved it too...
all in all a very fun day!!!

If you enlarge this picture you can see all the bubbles Stella is surrounded by........so far its been a pretty lazy summer....we have spent it swimming and blowing bubbles and having back yard picnics. Bubbles and balloons are Stellas latest obssesion.
But ...our lazy summer will soon get very busy....with parties and weddings and meeting bloggy folks and having houseguests....
Today my sister and I are meeting a special blogger from up north...and I will take lots of pics and post it later.
Next month there are lots of fun things happening...a bloggy conference.meeting another fun blogger..houseguests..my BFF is coming.the Piecemakers Show...omg so many fun things!!!
OHHHH and the greatest news this month.....my BFF is going to be a grandma very very soon!!! I cannot be happier for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is gonna be on cloud nine!!!!!! and Im on cloud nine for her....come on Hunter..we cant wait to meet YOU!!!!!
We have a big family wedding in a few weeks and we are all so excited to watch my little sisters youngest marry her marine!!!

Here are the things I bought from the show....first off...these primitive Quilting magazines are to DIE for...each magazine..there are 2 out now...has like 20 projects and all prim and all awesome...I cannot recommend this magazine high enough!!!! I also got the new Need'l Love mag for fall...always a good one!

SO yesterday afternoon I decided to take my tea and one of my new prim quilting magazines outside to read and enjoy the sun....came back in and left the magazine outside to finish up today....OMG I live in So Cal and it NEVER EVER EVER rains here in the summer....so this morning we woke up to thunder and it was pouring......later on I went outside and found my poor prim magazine soaked........so sad. I did manage to get it dried out...it looks like crap but I can still use it...the pattern part inside didnt get wet.......CRAZY weather!!!!!

Now the sun is back out and its humid as ......you fill in the blank!!!!

maybe I will go back out and lounge the rest of the day away reading my new mags!!! Have a great rest of the weekend!!!

Yesterday my 2 sisters and I headed for Long Beach to the Quilt Festival......it was heaven..at least for this prim lover!!!!!

Then onto a fav...Primitive Gatherings.....although not much new...I have most of thier stuff too....lol...

OK next fav....Heart to Hand......had to have some of thier wool...even tho I swore Im not buying any more wool!!!!

OK those were my fav booths......where I spent my $$$$...and I will post in a few days what I bought..AND pictures of some quilts...although very disappointing..the best quilts were not allowed to be photographed.
My sister Linda took lots of pics and you can see them on her blog when she posts them.
It was a fun day........we had dinner at California Pizza kitchen....walked around the boardwalk...and spent 4 hours on our feet at the show...by the end of the night...these dogs were BARKING!!!!!! BUT well worth it....I have lots of fun things to show you next time.
Im taking Stella to swim birthday party tomorrow at the beach...just me and her....and shes spending friday and saturday night here with Nene and Poppy.........by Sunday I bet I will need a rest....but so worth it!!!!!

These are one of my fav appetizers for spring and summer....they also happen to be my nieces fav of all time and she asked me to make some for her wedding shower that we had today......I thought I would share how to make them...they are SO easy and yummy!

Just a few simple ingrediants.....cream cheese...and what could be bad about that? also the Pillsbury tube of french bread....a packet of good seasons Italian dressing mix and a cucumber, or whatever you have fresh....

Now does anyone remember these bread tins...they came in the flower shape and a heart shape from Pampered Chef I think. YOu can still even find them sometimes on ebay. If you dont have one...you can just bake the bread in a loaf....it will still be yummy..just not as cute:)

Bake the bread in the tin according to directions....and if you use the tin..check on it because sometimes it takes a little longer.

I get the whipped cream cheese, its just easy to spread and Im all about easy.

Mix the cream cheese and the dressing mix...

let the loaf cool for a while...

slice the bread into thin slices with an electric knife....

see how cute.....for Valentines Day you can do the heart tin and put a little red food coloring in your cream cheese!

I use a madeline to slice my cucumbers..this time I used the little persian cucumbers...but use what ever you want.

I went out to my garden and cut some chives and grabbed a couple of little tomatos...oh and I cut some parsley for garnish...

Spread the cheese mixture on the bread and garnish
and here you go.....sort of like fancy little cucumber sammies...so cute.

Sometimes I put a little shrimp on top...you could do olives...really anything you like..

The possibilities are endless.....use whatever you have or that is in season!
They make a refreshing appetizer when its hot out...and it WAS HOT!!!!

Just when I was getting back into it! I have had a problem with my machine for a while...it sews by itself...yes...thats what I said!! So a while back I took it to the shop and of course it wouldnt do it for the repair guy so there was nothing he said he could do. Then it stopped for awhile...today..omg it took on a life of its own..so I took it back where I got it, my local quilt shop...and hopefully they can fix it.....so until then...this new gal has no underwears!!!!!!!

OK my newest obsession......now I really never cared for these creatures before but now that I have Stella Im thinking she might enjoy them!!!!

I made a doll!!!!!! lololol...not that I havent made hundreds of Annies....way too many to count....I have not made one in ages...AGES!!!!!!!
Years ago under the name of AllThingsRaggedy I sold my Annies on Ebay, folkofart and RantingRaven.....and at shows....but then I got a JOB...and so I stopped making them for about...geez...probably 7 or 8 years!!!!!! And I LOVED my job...selling perfume...BUT when the economy took a dump it was no longer as fun...so I retired. Well. I retired a few times and was lured back BUT now Im retired for good....FOR GOOD!!!!!!
I have made a few dolls over the years...just for friends...but I havent made one in the last year or two...
SO my sister and I...and my old partner Raggedyoldfriend and MAYBE HOPEFULLY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE my BFF decided to do a show...in October at Piecemakers......now we used to do this show 3 times a year when we were selling dolls and its always a blast...so I decided WHY not????? I mean..Im still retired, but I can make a few dolls..right? My sister Lindamakes the most amazing totes (go check them out) and so I figured it would be fun to join her and do the show......and Lieghanne makes the most amazing dolls ever...so it should be fun. Piecemakers is an amazing quilt shop and they always put on a great show...live band...yummy food and its down at the beach so how can we go wrong????
So this weekend I broke the ice and decided to see if I could still sew....lol....its always fun to see them come together!

My sister and I decided to take a little field trip to Country Loft after spying on their website all the new goodies....so off we went....and no trip to Country Loft is complete without hooking up with Ms. GingerPatches herself Tammy..and Janine who has no blog....

And no trip is complete without lunch at Sammys.....yummy gourmet pizzas and salads...we sat there for HOURS gabbing and did not even realize that like 3 hours had gone by!!!!!!

ok so I finally got down to business in my sewing room...organizing it....its not done yet but I promised my friend Darlene that I would put some picture up of my progress...so here goes!
I had the sewing/scrapping table made by a guy on ebay, its made like the pottery barn craft table....

this is where I sew...most of the time...sometimes I sew on my kitchen table tho!

the table has cubbies on each side for storage...its also a nice height, I like to stand when I scrap....

I also keep my collection of annies and other dolls in there....most of them have been made by dear friends....they are all so different....

LOVE this yellow hutch from Ikea.....

Everything is still not where I want it and I dont dare show you the closet...but its a start and at least I can find everything. Half of my scrappy stuff is in another room...I have enough paper to fill an entire store,,,,buts thats a story for another day...
SOOOOO now all I have to do is get busy and SEW!!!!!! I have a stack of patterns ready to go!!!!!

Went over to my sisters house today to sew for a while.....finished up a couple of wool projects that had been hanging around for a few months.....it was a wonderful day and my sister is a great hostess...she made a wonderful taco salad for lunch and I snacked on yogurt covered almonds, which I had to move to the kitchen or I would still be eating them!!! First I had to walk around her back yard, which is gorgeous!
Her apple tree is ginormous...I remember when they planted it about like 26 years ago or so....she will correct me if Im wrong...and its LOADED with apples. We always enjoy my sisters apple crisp! she has so many apples she even donates them by the box load!

She has an amazing green thumb which I did not inherit:(

So I finished this cute little wool candle mat....I have a plant on it now but maybe in the fall I will put a nice spicy jar candle on it...?

And I finished this table runner...I LOVE it and the colors are nice and prim....

it looks really nice on my buffet....glad its DONE!!!!

Its always more fun to sew with someone...thanks Linda for having me and making lunch! AND letting me enjoy your yard and watching you birds and their antics...fun day!

Said goodbye to an old friend....I had not driven her in a while....not exactly a grandma car is it...lol
OK...I just recently got accused of playing high school games...SOOOOOOOO...its TRUE!!!!! Me and my high school friends play high school games...lololol
For something like 30 odd years we have been passing around a pair of granny panties on each others birthdays....we all get together..and each birthday that last persons birthday that it was embellishes the panties a little more.....Im not sure you really wanna know whats been done to those drawers.....do you???????
So on our last get together we decided the panties had had it, it was time for something new to embellish....

well...I didnt really get that much from my trip to Rogers.....but lots of ideas thats for sure!

I went down there specifically looking for a lemon verbena and I scored!

Never can turn down a red pot!

I also pick up some of these rustic looking pots while Im there....

Remember we stopped at that wonderful bakery on our way home....words cannot describe how good these were!!!

SOOOOO remember a few posts back I bought some beets at the farmers market...and I told you how I had hated them my whole life but I was willing to try them again....well....I did! I roasted them with some olive oil and salt and pepper just like Ina does......and guess what!!! I liked them ok...didnt love them, but I liked them....

we even had the leftover beets on our salad the next night!

Oh look...more rolls from that yummy bakery....
So yes I will eat them again...Im actually trying to grow some in my garden....and the carrots were amazing roasted. Next time..parsnips!!!!!!!!!!!

We finally had a sunny day here in So Cal so my sister and I decided to take a drive down to the beach and visit one of our fav places..Rogers Gardens....

I could spend an entire year,,,,and a years salary in this place!!!!

They had all the red white and blue out for memorial day and the 4th of July...

Iam so inspired by these gals that Im going to spend some time in my sewing room and see what I come up with!!

On a Mission....

First off I have to show you my little Sadie....

We are trying very hard here in our house to get healthy....which for us is changing the way we eat.....I guess when you hit your 50s..or later...lol...AND you finally get to be grandparents...you start thinking that maybe you would like to hang around as long as you can. The old saying you are what you eat is so true!!! We are also trying to buy more from local farmers markets rather than the grocery store. Its a great way to spend a saturday! But first let me show you a couple of things I could not live without!

Cutco kitchen scissors...TO DIE FOR!!!!!
Usually at least once a week I make soup...this week I made split pea soup...there is no recipe, I just throw a bag of split peas into a pot..OR the crockpot..with carrots, celery, an onion...a couple of bay leaves, some salt and pepper...and whatever kind of ham or sausage I have laying around here. This week I had leftover Italian sausage and I used it....it turned out wonderful.

And this gadget to dice vegies makes it go so fast....I chopped all the onions carrots and celery in a snap!

Local honey from the farmers market....infused with cinnamon...yummy in our tea!!!!

so this week we went to farmers market and got a few things.homemade granola and yummy sourdough bread....but one thing I have hated ALL my life is BEETS!!! If they came on my salad in a restaurant I was devastated!!!! REALLY!!! however...I heard beets are good for you. I also saw the Barefoot Contessa ROAST them in the oven with olive oil and they looked kind of good......SO tomorrow night Im going to try it.....I will let you know how they turned out! I also go some red onions that looked like they had just been pulled out of the ground.

Strawberry shortcake anyone?

Oh and some cute little cucumbers I will toss with those red onions and a tomato, some olive oil and red wine vinegar for a summer salad..

OK..THIS BOOK started it ALL!!!!! If you are at all interested in getting healthy and buying LOCAL...and even growing your own...OR you just want some amazing recipes this book is FABULOUS!!!! The author decided to ONLY BUY LOCAL from farmers.AND only produce that was in season..FOR ONE YEAR!!!!!!!!!! the book chronicles how she did it....by growing, canning, and only shopping from local farmers and dairies etc...for one whole year.....how they did it, what they had to go without...and I tell you I could not put this book down. Barbara Kingsolver...you might remember she wrote the Poisonwood Bible.....such a good read!!!!!! I loved it and cant reccomend it high enough!!!
Changing eating habits is the hardest thing on the face of the earth to do........but we will try it a little at a time.....will I be giving up my coffee creamer anytime soon...I doubt it...but I can start by trying a beet........what about YOU?

Spring Fling at Taras...

I have a group of friends that I went to high school with..and we still hang out together. We all live within about an hour of each other..some closer, except Marianne who lives in AZ....but she still comes a few times a year to hang with us. This last time we hung out down at Taras beach house, a fav spot for us...

We have all known each other for over 40 some years....and we have stayed together thru think and thin....

There is no drama in our group and we will always be there for each other to the end..we truly just love each other and thats that!

We may talk about our aches and pains now instead of our boyfriends....but we still have just as much fun!
To girlfriends!!!!!!!

a little prim....

When I moved into this house I packed up my Annies and didnt think I would use them anywhere but maybe my sewing room...this house doesnt lend to prim like my last house....BUT I missed them, and realized Im still a prim gal at heart...so I made a little spot in the hallway for my Annies,,,at least some of them..the rest are in my sewing room, which isnt done yet,,,,and all my dolls that my BBF Glenni made...so heres i little prim spot ..and of course its RED cuz I love red!

Most of these dolls were made by either Glenni or Leighanne (raggedyoldfriend)...Leighanne made the crow...and the wool crow strawberry picture was a project Glenni made up and the 3 of us did when Glenni visited a few years ago...

this raggedy annie with the rug hooked heart was also a project Glenni brought and we made her together...I look at these things and they remind me of my dear friends and they make me happy!!!

This little gal was made by Kaf Grimm...a most talented dollmaker who I had the pleasure to spend a little time with a few years ago on Cape Cod with Glenni...we ate pizza on the beach and it was a great memory!

These gals are by a doll maker named Priscilla...I have tons of her dolls, they are the first ones I collected, and they are what inspired me to start making Annies myself...

I have to admit Ive been slacking a little....so today I dug in again.....
Here is our little courtyard by our front door...just got it fixed up..Hubby bought me the fountain..love the sound of water!

How cute is this little old vintage tricycle my sister got Stella at the Rose Bowl swap meet!!!!

So today I unpacked 6 boxes of dishes.....

these are our every day dishes......I unpacked them when we first moved in..but I have oh so many other dishes...

I have HUGE collection of fireking Jadite...I found it all at a yard sale years and years ago...30 bucks for a big box full!!!!

and tea cups are another thing I collected...about 15 years ago...I used to LOVE to have tea parties...

Some of these are so beautiful...they have been packed away for YEARS...thinking maybe I should put them in a cupboard so I can admire them when I want to? or have a tea party?

This is the very first house Joe and I bought about 6 months after we got married..I was pregnant with my daughter Chelsey at the time. The house was out in the middle of now where...but because my husband traveled at the time we just had to be near an airport, and Ontario airport was only about 20 minutes away...so we bought this house 28 years ago...an 1800 sq ft 4 bedrooms, 2 baths...brand spanking new...for $84,995.00..(BUT at the time we bought it interest rates were 12% so it was all we could afford).wow!!!! For me at the time it was a mansion....a dream come true...a new husband...new house..baby on the way...I also had a 10 year old..and we were starting a new life....did I mention it was out in the middle of no where????

When we decided to move....12 years ago...we could not sell it so we decided to keep it and rent it out.....my daughter Chelsey lived in it with her hubby for a couple of years before they bought thier own house, and they painted it these colors...when I loved there it was blue and mauve of course...then peach and sage green.....lol

I loved this huge open area...we had a lot of parties here..tons really....and there was always lots of room even tho it was not a huge house....

A couple years after we bought the house interest rates dropped sharply and we re financed and put in the pool,,and thats when the fun really began!
OH I have to tell you a little story...when we bought the house...back in 83...it was brand new and there werent many people moved in yet...the house next door was empty but it was sold to a young couple like us, I heard they had 4 kids and they would be moving in soon.....I was 9 months pregnant at the time and really lonely, Joe traveled a lot back then. SOOOOO...one day I was out in my front yard watering the dirt (no grass yet) and a couple walked over from next door to introduce themselves...NOW remember, we are out in the middle of nowhere....50 miles from where we lived before)...and I looked at the lady and almost had a heart attack not to mention premature labor!!!! The lady that was moving into the HOUSE NEXT DOOR 50 MILES FROM WHERE WE USED TO LIVE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE...was a friend I had had years before ...we worked in a market together and became BFFs...but then she had met a guy and spent all her time with him, we drifted apart and then I moved and never left a fowarding address.......5 years later met and married my husband and moved into my little dream house. So when they walked up to meet me...can you imagine?????????? OH and her name is Deborah Lynn...just like me and her husband is Joe...just like my Joe. SO for the next 12 or 13 years, until she abandoned me and they moved to MS of all places, we were like Lucy and Ethel.....oh the fun times we had. We still chat all the time and have seen each other over the years.

So this house has been rented out for like 12 years....and when ever a renter moves out we have to spend time getting it ready for the next renter. ....it always makes me melancholy..There is NOTHING like spending time out there to bring back memories...and what happy memories I have of this house...if walls could only talk. When we moved in it was all of us young families raising our kids...a very tight knit neighborhood...pool parties BBQs..street parties...always lots of fun. I sit out by the pool...dangle my feet and all of a sudden I can hear the laughter of the children when they were little...and Im young again...
I can see my little girl running down the hall..blond hair flowing with nothing but a pair of red cowboy boots on....I remember taking her to kindergarten..I remember my oldests first dance...I remember all the good memories...and some sad...losing my dad...my grandparents....BUT always always loving living in that house. I remember not having much money for a few years there...but having the time of our lives....
Now there are a few of the original owners still there...they are older...like me...kids gone...things change. My hubby and I talk of selling this house every time a renter moves out.....but then where would I go to put my feet in the water and be transported back to simpler times? What halls would I wander down and hear that laughter...or what room would I stand in a remember my baby sleeping in her crib on that very spot?
There were no cells phones there...no internet....no computer (until the end when we bought an apple...but certainly did not go online...there was no online..it was for games and studies ....and maybe that was a good thing?
Its a lot worse for wear....but then so am I...certainly it cant hold a candle to what I live in now..but would I go back and live those years over again....well..what do you think?
Im not sure I could ever part with it....its just a house....but oh its so much more..its a trip back in time.....
